We just got this information from Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, PA from Sarah Adams who was in charge of MCC’s HIV/AIDS work. Our actual total raised is now somewhere over $11,000. It’s a good thing folks just kept giving because the cost of the bikes went up! Donations beyond the cost of the bicycles will all still go to Generations At Risk HIV/AIDS work in Africa. There will be a news story about the project and ride coming soon, we’ll link to it as soon as it comes out.
“Now that I have the final, final plans for each country – and the final dollar amounts now that our fluctuating exchange rates have been set – I have final bicycle numbers.
Brethren in Christ Church HIV/AIDS Project in Zambia – 100 bikes at $88 each = $8,800
Community for Human Development in Zambia – 7 bikes at $88 each = $616
Kenya Mennonite Church HIV/AIDS Project in Kenya – 5 bikes at $100 each = $500
Community Based Health Promotion Program in Tanzania – 10 bikes at $74 each = $740
TOTAL = $10,656″
We are doing our first program about the project/ride this Sunday morning at Burton Mennonite Church. We’ve put together a several picture shows that you can see by going to the photo page and getting into the picasaweb albums. Go to photos in the sidebar on the left of this page to see several albums sorted by catagory of photos without the blog entries.
